Cranberry Apple Chutney

This exciiting and pretty chutney is sure to give any meat a great burst of flavor. Try it with pork, chicken or turkey. It's a new favorite of ours!

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup onion, minced
  • 2 apples, peeled, cored, sliced, and chopped tart and sweet apples
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup unsweetened cranberry juice
  • 1-2 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon allspice, gf more to taste
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger, gf more to taste
  • 1-2 pinches of ground cinnamon, gf
  • a few sprinkles of garlic powder or 1 small clove, crushed
  • 1-2 tbsp rum, gf optional
  • cup golden raisins
  • cup dried cranberries, unsweetened or whole cranberries

Instructions

  • In 1 tbsp of butter in a skillet, saute the onion for a few minutes until softened. Add the apples and the remaining butter and stir for a minute.  Add the water, cranberry juice, honey or maple syrup, rum (if desired), spices, garlic powder or crushed garlic, and dried fruit. Simmer for 12-15 minutes until the apples are tender. Add additional water or cranberry juice as needed. Serve over pork, chicken, or turkey.
