The Bloody Pineapple Cocktail

We’re always trying to come up with cocktails! I often can’t enjoy when I’m out, because grain alcohol affects me. Even though there is some debate this, I know for a fact that it bothers me. So here’s a great pineapple cocktail without any grain alcohol.

More on grain alcohol

We make our own limoncello here which is quite fun! I kept trying to have a tiny sip of it (years ago now). It would always give me the absolute worst Gerd and heartburn ever. We started looking for alcohol that doesn’t contain grain way back then. Now, we only use these grain free alcohols for my cocktails and cooking now.

This does make it a bit harder to order a drink, though, when you are out at a restaurant. Usually drinks on menus are made with specific brands of alcohol. Bartender’s sometimes don’t like special requests, I’ve found. As well, sometimes we just aren’t familiar with a particular brand. So, usually I end up with a prosecco sparkling wine or possibly a margarita. Still, I’m super happy with that if it means I don’t have to feel ill.

Great options for home

At home, we buy a few brands like Tito’s Vodka and Mount Gay Rum that I like to use in my drinks. Usually 100% agave made tequilas are fine, too. Cointreau, Patron, Grand Marnier Liqueur, and many others are gluten free and don’t contain grain.

Always look for brands that state they are gluten free and grain free. Just because a alcohol is grain free doesn’t mean that it can’t contain gluten in the form of flavoring or other additives.

Fruit drinks

I’ve always been partial to a rum or vodka drink. This pineapple cocktail would also work well using a gluten free rum in place of the vodka. Tropical juices pair wonderfully with rum, I think.

It also warrants a tropical garnish, like a Tiki umbrella, or skewer with a pineapple chunk or maybe a strawberry garnish.

Drinks with edible flowers, dried pineapple rings, or dried citrus always are a quick garnish for a cocktail or mocktail.
